Solar Powered Gas Platform In North Sea
It was recently announced that the first gas platform was being operated in the North Sea that was being powered entirely by wind and solar energy. This is definitely a first for an offshore company and it is a great to help them reduce the cost of exploration and drilling for gas reserves.
This might sound a little (or a lot) strange. Here they are drilling for gas that is to be use by people to help heat their homes and for other power generating alternatives. The platforms that are scattered throughout the world have been using regular fossil fuels to produce the energy that they need. Now, with this revolutionary announcement, it appears that even the companies that find and sell gas are using solar powered energy to get that gas out of the ground.
According to the experts, the idea behind oil and gas platforms that are powered using only renewable energy, has been developed to allow companies to go after smaller pockets of oil and gas. Using the solar powered energy allows a much more economical way to recover these reserves without adding to harmful carbon emissions to the atmosphere.
