Solar Wind Is A New Source Of Energy

When it comes to finding new sources of energy to keep our country running researchers are working hard to come up with alternatives. It is becoming more apparent that we need to find other ways to run our cars, heat our homes and to generate electricity.

Today solar wind is being seen as one of the best ways to generate electric. It might seem strange that the wind can do this. However, when rows of wind turbines collect the kinetic energy of the air currents it can be converted into electricity.

This sounds good, but the turbine rotors that are needed to generate solar wind are very large and you need a lot of them to make this work. You might have seen some of these turbine rotors if you were traveling through the Midwest United States. There were rows upon rows of them spinning in the wind.

There is one definite advantage to solar wind. The wind can blow 24 hours a day where the collection of solar cells using direct light from the sun are limited by the amount of daylight in each area. You can also argue that there are times when the wind does not blow-so either of these options can have limitations.

When you stop and think about the possibility of using solar winds to generate electricity, it is a good idea. A large portion of the land in the Midwest is not suitable for agriculture and in many instances there are no people living there. The families that owned and attempted to farm these lands for generations found this to be a failing proposition-but not anymore. Their once useless land that was just sitting there can now be used to generate electricity. They can rent their land out to companies that will install wind turbines to collect and store electricity.

The wind that helped to devastate their family's livelihood when it came to farming is now providing an income to these people today. Who would have ever thought that the wind could generate electricity on such a level?

Even though we know that solar wind can and does make and store electricity when properly implemented, there is still a long way to go. The infrastructure for collecting solar wind is just not there yet and it will take a major financial commitment before this becomes a truly viable source of energy for the United States.

We are gradually moving toward the use of alternative energy sources such as solar wind but we still have a long way to go. It will probably be decades before we make the final commitment to convert from our fossil burning fuels to using energy completely generated by solar wind.
